Synopsis: It sounded like just another urban legend – videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days. As a newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller was naturally skeptical of the story, until four teenagers all met with mysterious deaths exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video… and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery of the “Ring.”
Review: Special Features Review (September 2010)
My DVD of “The Ring”, or “Le Cercle” if you are French, doesn’t have a single special feature making it a worthwhile purchase. There is a grand total of two bonus features, neither of which are remotely interesting or even worth watching at all. There is a trailer for the original Japanese film, “Ringu”, which is worth checking out if you are one of the three people out there who didn’t already see the trailer on your own on YouTube. In my opinion though, trailers aren’t special features. They’re just DVD filler. So minus points for having a trailer as a special feature.
Really, the only special feature is a “short” film created by director Gore Verbinski. The DVD cover proclaims that it “reveals more electrifying secrets about the mystery of “The Ring””. Does it? Nope! It’s just a greatest hits montage of some of the better scenes from the film inter-spliced with some random stuff that I can’t recall being in the film (i.e. deleted scenes). So its really not even worth mentioning. Yes, the special features are scant on this DVD, however the creepy looking DVD menu kinda makes up for it!
